What do children need when friendship gets hard?
They need opportunities to practice listening, communicating, taking turns, and solving problems with others.
That is what Heart Skills: Circle Time with Puppet Pals is all about.
The “I Don’t Want to Share!” 5-Day Digital Unit gives teachers a playful, developmentally appropriate way to help young children practice these important social-emotional skills through puppet conversations, songs, games, activities, and teacher-guided discussion.
And today, I want to give you a FREE sample from the unit!

🎵 Friends Solve Problems
One of the ways children can practice a Heart Skill is through music.
The “Friends Solve Problems” song, sung to the familiar tune of “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star,” gives children simple words they can remember when they experience a friendship problem.
Tune: Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star
Chorus
Friends solve problems, yes we do! (Clap twice.)
Friends solve problems, me and you! (Point to yourself, then a friend.)
Verse
I listen to you, you listen too. (Cup hand to ear, then point to a friend who cups their ear.)
We take our turns in all we do. (Point to yourself, then a friend.)
Kindly say, "Let's find a way!" (Open hands toward each other.)
We'll work together every day! (Hold hands with a partner or link elbows.)
Repeat Chorus
Friends solve problems, yes we do! (Clap twice.)
Friends solve problems, me and you! (Point to yourself, then a friend.)
The song is simple enough for young children to sing along with and can become a familiar reminder that problems with friends don't have to mean the end of the friendship.
Sometimes we can listen, talk, take turns, and work together.
💛 A Glimpse Inside the Unit
The song is only one small piece of what children experience in the “I Don’t Want to Share!” 5-Day Digital Unit.
The unit provides opportunities for children to learn through conversation, play, music, creativity, and hands-on experiences.

These photos offer just a glimpse of the kind of hands-on experiences that can accompany Heart Skills learning enrichment class.
The goal isn't simply to complete a craft or memorize a song.
The goal is to give children repeated opportunities to practice the skills they need to build healthy friendships.
