Rooted in Reading – Day 1: Exploring the /c/ Sound With Moxie

Welcome to Day 1 of our Rooted in Reading Free Reading Program! We are so excited to begin this playful literacy journey together as we explore the /Cc/ sound with Moxie through movement, crafts, sound play, and hands-on learning.
Our video instructional lessons were created to be companion lessons that work alongside the Rooted in Reading program so families, educators, homeschoolers, and childcare providers can easily follow along each day through simple, engaging, and developmentally supportive activities.
It has been incredibly encouraging to see families, educators, and caregivers using the Rooted in Reading program with their children. In response to the wonderful feedback and growing literacy needs we have seen, we are now expanding the program with:
Companion instructional video lessons that are designed for children to participate at home or at school while using the Moxie Letter Craft Kits. Engaging and fun stuff!

Our heart behind this expansion is to help meet children’s literacy needs in fun, creative, hands-on ways that build confidence while making learning joyful and approachable.
One of the most beautiful parts of this journey has been watching children learn through movement, repetition, creativity, play, and encouragement. These lessons were created especially for preschool and beginner learners who are developing foundational literacy skills one step at a time.
As we continue building this program, we boast fully in Jesus, the Master Teacher, who continues to guide, equip, and provide wisdom for every lesson, activity, and learning experience we create. We are thankful for the opportunity to serve children and families through literacy, creativity, and encouragement.

This Week’s Focus: The /Cc/ Sound
This week children will focus on hearing and practicing the /c/ sound found in words like:
Cat
Cup
Cookie
Car
Cow
While the letter name /Cc/ is naturally introduced during the lessons, our primary focus is helping children build strong phonemic awareness by encouraging the sound first. This helps children begin connecting sounds to early reading readiness skills in a gentle and developmentally supportive way.

In today’s instructional phonics lesson, Moxie helps children practice hearing and repeating the /c/ sound through:
Sound chanting
Repetition
Movement
Beginner phonics conversation
Sound awareness activities
Playful participation
The focus is on encouraging children to confidently hear and produce the sound before mastering letter identification.

✂️ Day 1 Letter Craft Lesson
Today also includes a step-by-step craft lesson showing children how to complete the lowercase /c/ alphabet craft while continuing to reinforce the sound throughout the activity.
During the craft lesson we encourage children to:
Say the /c/ sound aloud
Connect sounds to visual learning
Practice fine motor skills
Build creativity and confidence
Engage in hands-on literacy learning
